1 medium onion, chopped
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 lb. lean ground beef or turkey
1/2 lb. Italian sausage
3 tbsp. Bella Garlique or to taste
23 oz. can tomato sauce
6 oz. can tomato paste
1/2 cup red wine or beef broth
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
12 oz. lasagna noodles
2 lb. ricotta cheese
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
Saute onion in oil until translucent. Add meats, Bella Garlique, tomatoes sauce and paste, wine or broth, water, sugar, salt, and crushed red pepper. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. In the meantime, boil noodles in salted water until al dente. Spread a fourth of the sauce into a large baking dish; layer 1/3 of noodles, 1/4 sauce, and half of each cheese (mozzarella and ricotta). Follow with noodles and repeat twice, ending with 1/2 cup parmesan cheese. Bake on 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
